Tottenham hit back to beat unlucky QPR

Tottenham 2 QPR 1

Mark Hughes’ poor away record as QPR manager continued as Tottenham clawed their way back from behind to clinch their first home win of the season.

A defensive reshuffle did not deter the R’s from capitalising on a nervy start from Spurs and Bobby Zamora’s neat finish gave the visitors a half-time lead.

Zamora put Rangers ahead.

But the impressive Alejandro Faurlin watched on as a corner bounced off his back and rolled into the corner of the net to equalise just before the hour mark.

And moments later Jermain Defoe fired into an empty net after Gareth Bale’s effort rebounded off the crossbar.

Rangers are waiting for their first away win under Hughes. who was forced into major changes in the back four with Anton Ferdinand, Armand Traore and Fabio all ruled out with injury and recent signing Stephane Mbia still not fit.

And to make matters worse, Jose Bosingwa limped off in only the third minute when he pulled up with what appeared to be a hamstring strain and was replaced by Kieron Dyer.

But QPR undoubtedly had the better of the opening period, with Esteban Granero and Faurlin pulling the strings in midfield.

And it was Faurlin’s through ball that set up Zamora to fire home the opener.

But a minute after drawing level, Spurs went ahead when Jan Vertonghen broke and set up Bale, whose shot came back off the woodwork and into Defoe’s path.
