Spurs could make Carroll decision next week

Tottenham are expected to decide next week whether to take Tom Carroll back to White Hart Lane from QPR.

The north London club have an option enabling them to recall Carroll and left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto from their season-long loans at Loftus Road.

Recently-appointed Spurs boss Tim Sherwood has given an indication of his plans by telling Rangers they can select Assou-Ekotto in the FA Cup but cannot field midfielder Carroll.

QPR manager Redknapp expects his former club to make a decision on Carroll in the coming days and believes Sherwood will allow Assou-Ekotto to remain at Rangers.

“I would think so. I would think Tim would let him stay,” said Redknapp.

“I don’t know for sure, but I think at the moment he’s not in their plans. He’s a top player and I’d like to keep him here.”

As for Carroll, Redknapp added: “I think in the next week or so they’ll look into whether to let him stay or not.”

Meanwhile, Redknapp has insisted he is not planning an attempt to sign Jermain Defoe on loan from Spurs.
