Freeman’s injury-time goal rescues point for QPR

Rotherham 2 QPR 2

Luke Freeman’s injury-time equaliser dramatically salvaged a point for QPR.

Freeman, who this week signed a new contract, headed home Jake Bidwell’s left-wing cross.

Nahki Wells scored for Rangers – his second goal in his past three games and his third of the season – after Will Vaulks’ early goal.

Rotherham were back in front by the quarter-hour mark courtesy of Clark Robertson’s goal.

But, after Pawel Wszolek had missed a glorious chance, Rangers battled on and their persistence was rewarded. They have now lost just three of their past 15 Championship matches.

A mistake by Angel Rangel led to them going behind after just six minutes.

After Rangel failed to cut out Zak Vyner’s diagonal ball, Richard Towell teed up Vaulks, who crashed an unstoppable shot past keeper Joe Lumley from near the edge of the penalty area.

Rangers themselves profited from a defensive mistake to equalise six minutes later.

Massimo Luongo lifted the ball into the box and, after Ryan Williams made a total mess of an attempted header clear, the ball ricocheted off Vyer and fell to Wells, who fired home left-footed from close range.

However, QPR then switched off at the back again and Robertson was able to head in Will Vaulks’ free-kick.

Wszolek should have levelled midway through the second half but failed to connect from six yards out after found by a cross from Freeman, who was later denied by a fine save from keeper Marek Rodak.

After keeping out Freeman’s strike, Rodak produced an even better to save to push away Ebere Eze’s late volley.

And an unmarked Josh Scowen should have done better than meekly shoot at Rodak after being teed up by a knock-down from fellow substitute Matt Smith.

But Rodak was unable to rescue the Millers when Freeman threw himself at Bidwell’s excellent ball in from the left.
