Redknapp hails QPR hero Austin after win

QPR boss Harry Redknapp hailed Charlie Austin after the striker scored a hat-trick in a remarkable win against West Brom.

Rangers fought back from two down to beat the Baggies 3-2, with Austin taking his goal tally for the season to 11.

The 25-year-old, who was playing for non-League Poole Town five-and-a-half years ago, is set to be offered an improved contract early in the new year.

“I don’t get involved with contracts. He’s certainly a player you would want to keep at your football club,” said Rangers boss Redknapp.

“He’s proved he can score goals in the Premier League. He’s scored at every level from the Southern League upwards and has shown he can do it.”

Rangers were in serious trouble after Albion scored twice in the opening 20 minutes.

But Austin netted from the penalty spot before the interval and scored twice from close range in the second half. The victory moved his team up to 15th in the table.

“Charlie scored the goals and we showed character to come back from two down,” Redknapp declared.

“We were getting outplayed and it was difficult to live with them in the early period. To come back from that and win 3-2 was fantastic.

“At 2-1 down at half-time we had a mountain to climb against a team that had conceded less away goals than anyone else in the Premier League.

“But we got the goals we needed. Not many people could have seen that coming.”
