Redknapp coy over Dawson and Beckham

Harry Redknapp has played down the possibility of David Beckham and Michael Dawson joining him at QPR.

The Loftus Road hierarchy are hopeful their appointment of Redknapp as manager will help Rangers convince Dawson to move from Tottenham in January.

They have been planning another attempt to capture the defender, who played under Redknapp at Spurs, when the transfer window opens.

Dawson turned down a move to west London in the summer but Redknapp’s predecessor Mark Hughes believed he could persuade him to sign further down the line.

And Redknapp has indicated that he would be interested in bringing in former England captain Beckham, who is leaving LA Galaxy.

But, speaking at his first press conference since being named R’s boss, Redknapp said: “It’s a long way until January.

“Michael Dawson’s a top player and captain at Tottenham. Transfer speculation is not on my mind at all. I’m only thinking of the group I have here.

“David Beckham’s a top professional but I’ve never discussed him coming. I’ve not discussed players with the chairman.”
