Rangers recover after Green’s blunder

Persebaya 1 QPR 2

QPR had to come from behind to secure victory after a mistake by summer signing Robert Green gifted their Indonesian hosts the lead.

Keeper Green was under very little pressure when he inexplicably dropped a high ball, giving Fernando Soler the simple task of tapping into an unguarded net.

Adel Taarabt equalised from the penalty spot after Fabio had been brought down in the box, and Bobby Zamora’s second-half goal meant Rangers ended their pre-season visit to Asia with another win.

After Taarabt brought his team level, Green managed to atone for his earlier error when he saved with his legs to deny Soler after a defence-splitting pass had put the Argentine through on goal.

Floodlight failure then meant play was halted for 11 minutes before enough power was restored for the remainder of the half to be completed.

After the break, Rangers youngster Michael Doughty had an effort saved and Jamie Mackie missed a good chance for the R’s when he headed wide from a left-wing cross by the impressive Armand Traore.

Mackie created Zamora’s 66th-minute winner, turning beautifully on the edge of the area and then cutting the ball back for the striker to fire home.
