QPR confirm signing of defender Simpson

QPR have confirmed the signing of Danny Simpson – their first addition of what is sure to be another busy summer of comings and goings at the club.

The 26-year-old full-back, who has agreed a three-year deal at Loftus Road, moves on a Bosman free transfer after Newcastle opted not to offer him a new contract.

West London Sport reported earlier this month that Rangers boss Harry Redknapp, unhappy at missing out on Wayne Bridge, had made signing Simpson his next priority.

This time he managed to convince the QPR board, who were sceptical about signing former England man Bridge, to sanction a deal.

Having started his career at Manchester United, Simpson had loan spells at Royal Antwerp, Ipswich, Blackburn and Sunderland before joining Newcastle in 2009, initially on loan.

Last season he made 40 appearances for the Magpies, scoring once.
