QPR’s woes continue with defeat at Birmingham

QPR’s defensive shortcomings were evident again as Birmingham came from behind to beat them at St Andrews.

Matt Phillips rifled in a left-footed shot to put Rangers in front on 17 minutes, but Paul Robinson was allowed to head home Demarai Gray’s free-kick eight minutes later.

And Paul Caddis’ penalty shortly after the hour mark was enough to give the home side victory.

Caddis converted from the spot after Nedum Onuoha was adjudged to have fouled former Brentford striker Clayton Donaldson.

The result does nothing to ease the pressure on QPR head coach Chris Ramsey, who was again barracked by the travelling fans – particularly when he withdrew forward Jay Emmanuel-Thomas late on.

Rangers, who announced ahead of the match that former manager Neil Warnock is returning to the club in an advisory role, struggled to create chances.

Leroy Fer did go close to equalising with a 25-yard strike which fizzed narrowly wide.

QPR: Green; Perch, Onuoha, Hall, Konchesky; Henry, Sandro (Tozser 72), Phillips, Fer (Luongo 72), Chery; Emmanuel-Thomas (Polter 84).
Subs not used: Smithies, Angella, Doughty, Faurlin.
