QPR’s errors punished in defeat at Birmingham

QPR’s mistakes were punished at St Andrews as Birmingham inflicted their first away defeat of the season.

All three goals came after Rangers had given the ball away. Liam Millar scored the first two and Demarai Gray added a late third.

And there was yet more injury woe for QPR, who ended the match with 10 men after Richard Kone, on as a substitute, went off after they had made all their permitted substitutions.

Julien Stephan’s side went behind when they were caught out by a Birmingham counter-attack following a Rangers corner.

Rayan Kolli lost possession to Jay Stansfield on the edge of the Blues penalty area and was unable to win it back – he was not helped by Kealey Adamson hurling himself at the ball and missing it – before Tomoki Iwata released Millar, who fired past keeper Pierce Charles.

And Miller netted again four minutes into the second half, putting the game out of QPR’s reach.

Iwata robbed Glen Kamara, exchanged passes with Partrick Roberts and then picked out the Canadian, who made no mistake.

Ronnie Edwards was the culprit for the third goal. A slick Birmingham move after he had given the ball away culminated in Luis Vázquez pulling the ball back for Gray to score.

QPR: Charles; Adamson, Dunne, Clarke-Salter (Varane 72), Kemper; Kamara (Scarlett 81), Edwards; Poku, Vale, Smyth (Saito 81); Kolli (Kone 62).
Subs not used: Ward, Alemayehu, Madsen, Morrison, Obikwu.

Mark your man and don’t watch the ball/puck. Lessons my son learned very young when he was playing ice hockey, but even our well-paid professionals seem to ignore it. (Oh, and never clear a ball/the puck straight up field – always out to one side.)

Adamson costs us the game and should never play for us again. He has no positional sense, no defensive ability. Lost in no where land for the first goal. goes up for the corner then does not get back. The next two goals both scored by unmarked players on the right side of the goal. Where was Adamson, watching both goals go in. Gets sucked into the middle each time. Play Cirkin at right back
