QPR wait for news on Phillips ankle injury

QPR are assessing an ankle injury suffered by Matt Phillips during the 3-3 draw against promotion rivals Burnley.

Phillips went off after five minutes at Loftus Road after appearing to fall awkwardly and there are fears he has sustained ligament damage.

“It’s difficult at the moment as we’ve lost Charlie Austin and then Matt went off,” said Rangers’ assistant manager Kevin Bond.

“He rolled over on his ankle. We haven’t had a chance to assess it and don’t know if it’s ligament damage, but it was obviously significant enough for him to have to come off.”

Rangers fell behind against the Clarets.

Rangers have struggled in front of goal this season and have relied on a rock-solid defence.

Yet they found the net three times against third-placed Burnley – despite being without their injured top scorer Austin – and conceded three sloppy goals.

The R’s retained second place thanks to a 79th-minute equaliser by loan signing Modibo Maiga, who scored on his debut along with Kevin Doyle.

Bond said: “That wasn’t like us – scoring three at home and conceding three

“But I thought Kevin was excellent and scored and then Maiga came on and got one.

“What you know you’re going to get with Kevin Doyle and Andrew Johnson is a stint – they’ve got the work-rate and are going to run.

“We need that. We need the front men to work hard and for them to score will hopefully do them the world of good.”
