Sandro made an emphatic return to the QPR side, scoring twice to take them through to the third round of the EFL Cup. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in the 2-1 win against Rochdale.

Matt Ingram: 6

Conceded early but was rarely threatened for the rest of the game. Made one stunning save from a header in the second half, but the flag was already up for offside.

James Perch: 6

Left exposed at times in the first half, but overall he had a decent game.

Nedum Onuoha: 6

The R’s captain was rarely troubled as the away side lacked the numbers going forward to truly threaten.

Grant Hall: 7

Similar to his defensive partner, but preserved Rangers’ lead with a crucial challenge on Ian Henderson late in the game.

Jake Bidwell: 7

A solid performance from the left-back, who provided good support going forward and a sure footing at the back.

Ariel Borysiuk: 7

Taken off after an hour following a steady debut. A promising start for the Pole, who could play a key role this season.

Sandro: 8

Scored twice and barely put a foot wrong, although he could perhaps count himself lucky to stay on the pitch having got away with a few fouls after picking up a yellow card.

Osman Kakay: 8

Usually deployed at right-back, Kakay produced an excellent performance on the right wing on his senior debut for the club. Some of his defensive work was superb, while his trickery and pace caused Rochdale’s backline problems. A thoroughly impressive first appearance.

Nasser El Khayati: 6

Taken off with what appeared to be a back injury after two or three heavy challenges in the first half. He showed promise before his early exit.

Olamide Shodipo: 6

A mixed game for the youngster; off the pace in the first half, but improved in the second as he used his pace to good effect.

Conor Washington: 6

A lively performance. Worked hard up front on his own and showed glimpses of what he could do with the right service that allows him to use his strength and pace. That said, when a clear-cut chance came his way he was unable to apply the finish.

Tjaronn Chery: 8

Came on early for the unfortunate El Khayati and changed the game. His direct running and ease on the ball caused Rochdale all sorts of problems. He also provided both assists, from corners, for Sandro’s goals.

Massimo Luongo: 7

A willing runner, a good passer and a solid tackler – the Australian continues to improve.

Sebastian Polter: 6

Could have scored with a couple of good chances after coming on, but miscued both times.
