Draw puts Rangers top of the Championship

QPR 0 Brighton 0

QPR endured a frustrating night at Loftus Road but a point was enough to move them to the top of the Championship.

They struggled to break down a well organised Brighton side and suffered a blow when Nedum Onuoha went off injured on 23 minutes.

His replacement, on-loan Tottenham full-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto, showed his Premier League class with an excellent debut and was involved in Rangers’ best moment of the first half.

Charlie Austin fired wide following good work on the left by the Cameroon international and had a header from Joey Barton’s corner saved by Tomasz Kuszczak.

Keeper Kuszczak kept out a well-struck Barton free-kick after the interval as Rangers – who have now kept five consecutive clean sheets in the league – continued to press.

Their next chance fell to Richard Dunne, who was unable to force the ball over the line after Clint Hill’s header down.

And in stoppage time, Dunne headed over from Barton’s left-wing free-kick.

QPR (4-4-1-1):Green; Simpson, Onuoha (Assou-Ekotto 23), Dunne, Hill; Phillips, Barton, Henry (Jenas 74), Wright-Phillips; O’Neil; Austin.
Subs not used: Murphy, Carroll, Hitchcock, Faurlin.
