Bonne has heart set on Ipswich move

Macauley Bonne of QPR

QPR striker Macauley Bonne has told the East Anglian Daily Times that he is keen on a return to Ipswich Town this summer.

The 26-year-old spent  last season on loan at the League One club after falling out of favour at QPR, scoring 12 times in 43 league games.

Bonne, who grew up in Ipswich and is a fan of the Tractor Boys, joined QPR from Charlton in 2020 and has a year left on his contract.

And the forward believes he has “unfinished business” at his boyhood club.

“Some people at QPR might read this and not be happy, but I’d ask them to put themselves in my shoes,” he said.

“Who wouldn’t want to play for and be loved by their hometown club?

“I feel I have got so much unfinished business with Ipswich Town.

“It could happen this summer, it could happen in January, it could happen next summer when I become a free agent.”

Bonne enjoyed a fine start to his loan spell at Ipswich, scoring 11 times in his first 15 league games.

But he would score just once more for the club following that impressive run of goalscoring form, and also revealed that there have already been offers made for him by other clubs this summer.

“I went back for pre-season training last week, we’ll go to Germany and they will get a gist of how I am feeling. I think people will know where my head is at,” he explained.

“There’s been a loan offer and a buy offer. They sound like really good football options, but it’s not all about the football side of things.

“I could move miles away from my family and be miserable. I’ve got lots of friends in football who have experienced that.

“It’s a short career, so I have to assess every single option. Those offers are still in play.

“I don’t think I have given QPR a good crack yet. It might still work there for me yet. There’s definitely a buzz about the place right now with Michael Beale.

“I guess I’m in no man’s land right now. I’ve just got to be patient and see what happens.”
