Ian Holloway has told beIN Sports Australia he believes QPR midfielder Massimo Luongo can reach the highest level and is among the best players he has worked with.

Luongo has been included in Australia’s squad for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

It comes after an excellent season for the 25-year-old, who was voted player of the year by QPR supporters.

In an interview recorded prior to his recent sacking as Rangers manager, Holloway said: “I believe, now I have worked with him, that he could play for Barcelona. I believe he could play for Man City.

“We are not the same team without him. I honestly believe he is as good a player as I’ve ever had in my career so far.”

‘Right place’

Former Tottenham youngster Luongo, who moved to west London from Swindon Town in 2015, is confident he will make the step up to the top flight.

“One day I still believe I can do it,” he said.

“I think I’m in the right place at the moment to achieve that.

“QPR is a great place to be. They’ve taken a lot of steps to change the ethos of the club. It’s changed to a kind of family club.

“We’re all getting put on display in the best way the manager can do and it is helping us.”
