QPR set to confirm six-month Benayoun deal

QPR hope to confirm the signing of Yossi Benayoun on a six-month deal in the next 48 hours.

Rangers are awaiting a work permit for the 33-year-old Israeli after agreeing a contract until the end of the season.

Benayoun, a free agent since leaving Chelsea during the summer, recently spent a week training with the R’s and wanted an 18-month deal.

The club’s board had reservations, mainly because of his age, and a compromise was reached.

Having made his name in the Premier League with West Ham, Benayoun was at Liverpool before a £5m move to Chelsea in 2010.

He managed only one league start in a three-year spell with the Blues, during which he was loaned to West Ham and Arsenal.

Benayoun attracted some interest from Spanish clubs but was keen to return to London and his representatives have been trying to secure him a move to QPR for some time.
