QPR pick up point at West Brom

QPR continued their encouraging start to the season by picking up a point at The Hawthorns.

A first-half own goal by R’s fan Chris Mepham put the visitors ahead, but West Brom quickly hit back with an equaliser by Callum Styles.

Albion dominated possession in the first half but Rangers went ahead in fortuitous circumstances against the run of play.

Kwame Poku nicked possession and played in Rumarn Burrell, who evaded a challenge and fired straight at keeper Max O’Leary, with the ball then hitting Mepham in the face and rebounding into the net.

Styles levelled less than three minutes later with a strike from near the edge of the box beyond keeper Pierce Charles and into the far corner.

Both teams had chances in the second half, with West Brom’s best falling to an unmarked Jayson Molumby, who headed Styles’ corner wide of the target.

At the other end, Poku had an effort saved by O’Leary, who also kept out Burrell’s header from Harvey Vale’s corner.

QPR: Charles, Mbengue, Edwards, Clarke-Salter, Cirkin (Adamson 71), Madsen (Kamara 46), Varane, Poku (Saito 82), Vale, Smyth (Scarlett 35, Lloyd 82), Burrell.
Subs not used: Ward, Morrison, Alemayehu, Obikwu.
