QPR miss out on Maloney-Phillips swap deal

QPR appear to have failed with an attempt to land Wigan winger Shaun Maloney after Matt Phillips indicated he was reluctant to join the Latics in exchange.

Wigan made an enquiry about Phillips, prompting Rangers to ask about a potential swap deal involving Scotland international Maloney, 31, who looks set to join Leicester.

Rangers boss Harry Redknapp is keen to bring in a wide-man – Standard Liege’s Paul-Jose M’Poku is one of several options being discussed – but may need to offload a member of his squad in order to do so.

A number of Championship clubs have shown an interest in Phillips, while QPR would listen to offers for Junior Hoilett.

Hoilett, who moved to Loftus Road in 2012, has £7m release clause in his contract but Rangers would be willing to sell for significantly less if an offer came in.
