QPR man relishing three-way title battle

Richard Dunne believes the race for automatic promotion has already developed into a three-way battle between QPR, Leicester City and Championship leaders Burnley.

The likes of Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Blackpool are in the thick of the promotion battle with less than half of the season having been completed.

But Dunne, who has been outstanding for QPR this term, feels the current top three, who are level on points, are the ones to beat.

“We need to keep going as we are,” said the veteran central defender.

“We’re in a three-way battle at the moment and we’ve just got to try to keep in touch with that and then hopefully over the course of the season start to pull away and get ourselves in a position where we are certain of promotion.

“Leicester have been doing really well. They’ve been getting better and better each week. They had a bit of a setback but they’ve kicked on again.

“Burnley have been great all season, so the consistent teams really have been us three.”

Dunne added: “In the Championship someone [often] comes from nowhere and gets in the play-offs or gets a promotion place.

“We have to be careful and also make sure that nobody pulls away from us. If there’s a breakaway group then we have to be part of it.”
