QPR’s Onuoha hails ‘fantastic’ Zamora

QPR defender Nedum Onuoha says he is not at all surprised by Bobby Zamora’s impact in recent matches.

The veteran striker has been hampered by a hip compliant and a knee injury since a big-money move to Rangers from Fulham in January 2012 but has enjoyed a decent run of form of late.

Saturday’s strike in the 5-2 win at home to Nottingham Forest was Zamora’s third goal in seven appearances.

“He’s not proved me wrong, because I always felt he was fantastic,” said Onuoha.

“Two seasons ago, him signing on deadline day was a massive boost for everyone who was at the club.

“He was fantastic for the first six months and the next year he had a few injuries and so on, but I still knew how important he was because of the way he performed in the Premiership in that first season.

“It’s no surprise now that he’s come in and is doing well. As well as being a great player he’s got a great personality as well. It’s always great to have him around.”

Onuoha scored the first of three late Rangers goals that secured a victory which virtually guaranteed them a play-off place.

Forest equalised twice but he fired into the net – his second goal of the season – before Ravel Morrison and Zamora netted in injury time.

“When it went to 2-2 I was saying to the other players that I still had confidence we could win the game,” Onuoha explained.

“We had Yossi Benayoun, Niko Kranjcar, Tom Carroll, Ravel Morrison and Bobby Zamora all on the field at that time. That’s set up to score goals.

“I scored our first goal of the season and thought I might get five or six this season, but then the drought kicked in.

“The goal did make a difference as Forest were on the up and when the goal went in it seemed to change everything.”
