QPR lose in extra time to West Ham

QPR lost in extra time at the London Stadium as the club once again went out of the FA Cup at the third-round stage.
After Crysencio Summerville had put Premier League strugglers West Ham ahead, Richard Kone equalised – much to the delight of the 9,000 Rangers fans.
It earned the visitors a deserved extra 30 minutes, but new signing Taty Castellanos restored the Hammers’ lead.
Rangers defended well and looked fairly comfortable before being undone in the final seconds of the first half.
West Ham swept forward, Steve Cook and then Jimmy Dunne attacked the ball but were unable to win it, and Soungoutou Magassa teed up Summervile, who fired beyond keeper Joe Walsh.
But as the under-pressure home team faded, Rangers grew in confidence and drew level when Karamoko Dembele, on the right-hand edge of the penalty area, delivered the ball towards Kone, who got in front of Aaron Wan-Bissaka to head into the far corner.
QPR continued to threaten but without the likes of injured top scorer Rumarn Burrell, their attacking options were limited, particularly as fatigue set in.
There was yet another injury to contend with – Koki Saito went off during the first half.
But his replacement, Paul Smyth, was relentless on the flank and contributed to a spirited R’s display.
However, West Ham got the goal they badly needed to placate their discontented fans eight minutes into extra time, when Summerville superbly spun away from Dunne on the left and crossed for Castellanos to head past Walsh.
