QPR in the dark over Joey Barton injury

QPR boss Harry Redknapp says he is unsure how long Joey Barton is likely to be sidelined with a thigh problem.

Barton picked up the injury during last weekend’s win at Ipswich, where he limped off shortly before half-time.

His absence is an untimely one for Rangers as Jermaine Jenas is unavailable, Alejandro Faurlin will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury and Yossi Benayoun is a doubt for Saturday’s game against Huddersfield.

It means Samba Diakite, consistently overlooked by Redknapp, is in line for a recall.

“Joey’s out for a little while and we’re not sure how long he’s going to be out for. He’ll certainly be out for tomorrow,” Redknapp said,

“Yossi Benayoun picked up a groin strain in training yesterday morning, so he’s struggling a bit. We’ve got to have a look at him.

“We’ve lost a few midfield players. Jermaine Jenas is out still and obviously Ale Faurlin is out long-term, so it’s an area we’ve suddenly become a little bit short in.”
