Harry Redknapp believes he could yet sign Jake Livermore on loan from Tottenham before next Thursday’s transfer deadline.
Redknapp recently agreed a deal to take Livermore, 23, to QPR for the rest of the season.
The move was then put on hold after Spurs star Sandro suffered a knee injury when the two clubs met at Loftus Road.
Despite reports they had scrapped the deal, Tottenham indicated they could still allow Livermore to leave if they are able to sign another midfielder.
Rangers’ hopes then appeared to be crushed when Spurs were given short shrift after an attempt to bring forward their signing of Schalke’s Lewis Holtby, who is due to move to White Hart Lane in the summer.
But Redknapp feels there may still be some movement in the coming days.
He said: “I don’t know exactly what’s happening with Jake. It could be 11 o’clock on Thursday before I get a firm answer.”
The R’s boss added: “We need to strengthen the squad. It’s an obvious fact as we’re still bottom of the league.
“It’s difficult but we need to try to strengthen if he can because we need people in.”
