QPR continued their encouraging start to the season by picking up a point against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in the 0-0 draw.

Pierce Charles: 7

The young keeper again showed great maturity, commanding his area well and getting down quickly to deal with low free-kicks from Issac Price and Callum Styles.

Amadou Mbengue: 5

On a day when Rangers were careless on the ball at times, Mbengue was perhaps the worst culprit. A poor display.

Ronnie Edwards: 8

Very good. Defended well – producing a couple of vital blocks – and was composed throughout. Gave exactly the performance Rangers needed from their stand-in captain in the absence of Jimmy Dunne.

Jake Clarke-Salter: 7

Also did well at the back, and his fitness has been a boost for Rangers so far this season.

Dennis Cirkin: 6

A mixed performance. Has obvious ability and showed it at times, but there were also some ropey moments during his least impressive performance for QPR so far, particularly during a first-half spell in which little seemed to go right for him.

Jonathan Varane: 6

Worked hard but his limitations on the ball were evident, not least when he woefully overhit a pass when there was a chance to put Kwame Poku through on goal.

Nicolas Madsen: 5

Was replaced at half-time after a first period in which West Brom dominated possession and Madsen struggled to make an impact.

Kwame Poku: 6

Anonymous for large spells of the game and Rangers needed much more from him. But he did have moments of impact, including an excellent defensive challenge in the first half, a second-half shot that was saved, and when he set up Rumarn Burrell in the build-up to the opening goal.

Harvey Vale: 5

Similar to Poku’s display, minus the odd lively moment. Whereas Poku made the odd contribution of note, Vale stayed totally anonymous throughout, at least in an attacking sense. He did perform an important pressing role without the ball.

Paul Smyth: 5

Unable to make an impact even before picking up an injury that made him even less effective. Tried to play on, but was struggling so badly he should probably have been taken off sooner.

Rumarn Burrell: 6

Involved in the Rangers goal, albeit fortuitously when he shot straight at keeper Max O’Leary and the ball then bounced in off the face of Baggies defender Chris Mepham. Had a header from a Vale corner saved, but those were rare sights of goal.

Leon Scarlett: 6

Came on for Smyth in the first half and, having only recently turned 17, understandably looked out of his depth at times. Did well on the left, though, in the build-up to Poku’s second-half chance.

Glen Kamara: 8

Another hugely impressive outing as a substitute for the summer signing, who popped up everywhere in the second half – including when calmly shutting down a late Albion counter-attack.
