QPR discuss shorter-term Benayoun deal

QPR boss Harry Redknapp is looking to push through a deal for Yossi Benayoun until the end of the season.

Benayoun, 33, a free agent since leaving Chelsea at the end of last term, has been training with Rangers and would like an 18-month contract.

Redknapp wants to sign him but the club’s board have reservations, mainly because of the Israeli’s age.

Redknapp wants a deal for Benayoun.

A compromise may involve a six-month deal with a view to an extension in the summer.

Another option could be a longer contract with a break clause, as was agreed with Richard Dunne when the veteran defender was signed in July.

“We’re trying to do a deal until the end of the season,” Redknapp confirmed.

“Yossi just wants to come here and play – it’s not a financial thing. He’d be a good player for us.”

Having made his name in the Premier League with West Ham, Benayoun was at Liverpool before a £5m move to Chelsea in 2010.

He managed only one league start in a three-year spell with the Blues, during which he was loaned to West Ham and Arsenal.

Benayoun has been offered deal by Malaga but is eager to remain in London and his representatives have been touting him for a move to Loftus Road for some time.
