QPR have completed the signing of Alex Baptiste after he was released by Middlesbrough.

Baptiste, 31, has signed a two-year contract at Loftus Road. He previously played under Rangers boss Ian Holloway at Blackpool.

“Alex is one of the biggest characters I’ve worked with in my time in the game,” Holloway told Rangers’ website.

“I know him really well and know what he can bring to our squad, so I’m delighted he’s signed and I’m looking forward to working with him again.

“He’s versatile – he can play anywhere across the back – and that was a big plus for me.”

Baptiste spent most of last season on loan at Preston. His other previous clubs include Bolton, Burton and Mansfield.

He is eligible to make his QPR debut in Tuesday’s League Cup game at home to Northampton Town.

Holloway has been keen to sign a defender but had to shelve a loan deal for Watford’s Tommie Hoban after the player picked up an injury in training.
