QPR boss unfazed by Redknapp speculation

Mark Hughes has shrugged off speculation linking Harry Redknapp with the QPR manager’s job.

Redknapp, potentially available since leaving Tottenham, has been touted as a possible replacement for Hughes, whose side are bottom of the table and without a league win this season.

But the Rangers boss insists he has the full support of the likes of chairman Tony Fernandes and vice-chairman Amit Bhatia.

“It’s a little bit unfair on Harry when someone sticks a microphone in his face. Harry’s an honest guy and says he’s had no contact,” said Hughes.

“I have a great relationship with Tony, Amit and everyone at the club and that will continue. They know I have experience in these situations and we’ll take the club forward.

“We’re six games into a very long season, we understand what’s required and that hasn’t changed. We’ll get performances and we’ll get results.”

Monday’s home defeat against West Ham was a big blow for Rangers following some encouraging signs in previous matches.

Hughes remains convinced his team will climb the table when key players return from injury and their many summer signings settle at the club.

“The one emotion we’re all displaying is frustration,” he said.

“We know we’ve got quality and have displayed it, most notably in the games against Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City.

“We all understand that we’re judged on results and at this point we haven’t got as many points on the board as we’d have liked, but we knew we had a difficult start to the season.

“We know we have the ability to win games in the Premier League. It’s just a matter of time.”
