QPR boss eyes ‘new start’ for Wright-Phillips

Mark Hughes believes Shaun Wright-Phillips can kick-start his QPR career this season.

The England international had a disappointing year at Loftus Road following his move from Manchester City, where he also played under Hughes.

But the Rangers boss is hopeful that Wright-Phillips’ encouraging pre-season performances are a sign of things to come.

“We’ve been really pleased with Shaun right through pre-season – he’s been excellent,” said Hughes.

“He lacked a little bit of confidence towards the end of last season and it was difficult for him.

“He’s scored a couple of goals in pre-season now. He looked sharp again against Wycombe and we’re really pleased by what he’s producing.

“I’m pleased for him because it’s like a new start for him in my view. It was stop-start for him last year but now he can really kick on.”
