Dyer features for QPR in win at Wycombe

Wycombe 0 QPR 3

Goals by Jamie Mackie, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Nedum Onuoha gave QPR a comfortable win at Adams Park, where Kieron Dyer returned to action after almost a year on the sidelines.

Summer signings Rob Green, Fabio, Ji-sung Park and Andy Johnson also featured for Rangers but Samba Diakite and Junior Hoilett were left out of the squad.

Diakite was rested as he had been involved in most of the pre-season campaign so far, while Hoilett has barely trained since his recent move from Blackburn.

Mackie scored on the half-hour mark, firing home from 10 yards out after latching on to Adel Taarabt’s clever pass.

He had earlier been denied by former R’s keeper Nikki Bull, who did well to stop his header from Armand Traore’s left-wing cross.

Bull also saved with his legs to keep out an effort from Djibril Cisse, who later sent a volley well over the bar.

Green was a spectator for most of the game but was called into action three minutes before the break when he dived to block Lee Angol’s shot.

And a throw by the England keeper almost created a goal nine minutes after the restart.

He launched the ball down the left flank towards Cisse and the Frenchman’s pass sent through Wright-Phillips, who lifted the ball over Bull only to see Marvin McCoy clear off the line.

Ex-QPR favourite Gareth Ainsworth got a great reception from Rangers fans when he was introduced on 65 minutes – four minutes before Wright-Phillips doubled the lead by finishing well after being set up by Hogan Ephraim.

Dyer played the final 18 minutes and delivered the right-wing corner from which Onuoha headed in Rangers’ third.

The former England international is desperate to salvage his career and could offer boss Mark Hughes an extra option if he is able to get fit.

Hughes may have an injury concern over Traore, who appeared to pick up a knock before being taken off late in the first half.
