QPR boss praised for giving youth a chance

QPR midfielder Brandon Comley has told the club’s website that boss Chris Ramsey deserves credit for giving youngsters their chance to impress.

The 19-year-old was named in a Premier League matchday squad for the first time on Saturday, in the defeat against Tottenham, and watched as fellow teenager Reece Grego-Cox made his senior debut as a late substitute.

As well as striker Grego-Cox, 19-year-old full-back Darnell Furlong played the full 90 minutes in the previous two Premier League games, against Hull and Arsenal.

And Comley, who signed his first professional deal last March, praised Ramsey for giving youngsters an incentive to work hard.

He said: “As soon as Chris came in, he told us there’s a pathway for us and he’s proving that. He wants to bring youth through which is great for us.

“Everyone’s thinking they have an opportunity now, especially with Darnell and Reece getting a go. It’s exactly what the youth team need and showing us that we all have a chance.”

Grego-Cox, who in coming on against Spurs became the third-youngest player to represent Rangers in the top-flight, added: “Being given the opportunity is a massive thing for me.

“It might have only been for five minutes but I was buzzing to get on. I just have to keep going now and keep making progress.

“Darnell has progressed and started the last two games. It gives us all confidence that we can do that too.”
