QPR boss hoping Faurlin can bounce back

Harry Redknapp says he hopes QPR star Alejandro Faurlin will be able rebuild his career after a second long-term knee injury.

Faurlin’s season was ended in November after he suffered cruciate ligament damage, with the 27-year-old having missed most of the campaign before last with a similar condition.

Many players have been unable to re-establish themselves after successive knee injuries – Bolton’s unfortunate midfielder Stuart Holden being a recent example.

And Redknapp has admitted there is concern that Faurlin could struggle to make a full recovery.

“I hope not, but look at Holden, the boy at Bolton – he’s done his knee again,” said the Rangers boss.

“He [Holden] had just come back. He’d been out now for about two years and he was a smashing player.

“It’s very difficult, but hopefully Ale will come back fine – he’s strong and a good lad with a good attitude. We’ll wait and see.”

Having fallen out of favour under Redknapp last season, Argentine playmaker Faurlin was recalled to the first team this term and was in good form prior to being stretchered off against Derby at Loftus Road.

Rangers have since also lost the likes of Danny Simpson, Matt Phillips and top scorer Charlie Austin to injury and are all but out of the race for automatic promotion.

Redknapp acknowledged: “Ale was a big loss for us as well. He’d started to really play well.”
