Warburton frustrated after QPR defeat

Mark Warburton was left to rue a second-half miss by Jordan Hugill after QPR’s defeat against Leeds.

Warburton’s side lost 2-0 at Elland Road, where Hugill should have equalised but was unable to hit he target with a header from Todd Kane’s cross.

Warburton said: “Jordan Hugill has had a fine season so far and if that goes in…

“Those are fine margins. You’re not going to come here and just dominate. Leeds are a very good team.

“We lacked that little bit of self belief. But one down with 20 minutes to go and that (chance) goes in, then you’d have to have belief.”

Hugill’s chance was a rare sight of goal for QPR, who have played attacking football this season but were much more cautious against a strong Leeds side whose win took them top of the Championship table.

Warburton fielded three central defenders, with Lee Wallace finally making his debut, and effectively played with five at the back.

Warburton made no apology for that, insisting those tactics gave his team the best possible chance.

“I’m not lacking belief in my squad, but this is a tough venue to come to,” said the Rangers boss.

“It’s a very demanding, expectant crowd and a big team within the division.

“So you have to come here and try to take care of the football and try and take the heat out of the game.

“You have to ride your luck sometimes and wait for your moment.”

Warburton also confirmed that Geoff Cameron missed the game because of illness.
