Holloway feels aggrieved after latest QPR defeat

Ian Holloway said Alex Baptiste was sent off at Preston after the referee mistakenly believed the defender had said something to him.

QPR centre-back Baptiste was shown a yellow card by referee Jeremy Simpson for dissent after the final whistle at Deepdale – his second booking of the game.

But Rangers manager Holloway suggested that Baptiste had aimed an insult at Preston’s Ben Pearson rather than the official.

Holloway said: “He got the first (yellow card) for bouncing the ball down.

“Then Alex refused to shake Ben Pearson’s hand and called him something and the referee told me that he thought he’d said it to him.”

Rangers, beaten 1-0 and still without an away win this season, plan to appeal against Jamie Mackie’s red card for a first-half challenge on Tom Clarke.

But they cannot challenge Baptiste’s dismissal as clubs are unable to appeal against yellow cards.

“I’ve got two sendings off in a game where I didn’t see a bad foul,” said Holloway.

“When you are as low as we are it makes it tough. At the moment we seem to have a lot to be aggrieved about when it comes to the man with the whistle.”
