Millwall v QPR player ratings

QPR were punished for some appalling defending as they suffered a first defeat in six matches. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in the 2-0 loss at Millwall.

Joe Walsh: 5

Produced a couple of saves to deny Josh Coburn, the second of which was a fine stop with his legs from point-blank range. But there was a total lack of command from the Rangers keeper as balls came into the area. He wasn’t helped by some woeful defending in front of him.

Amadou Mbengue: 5

One of four players replaced at half-time, Mbengue gave the ball away and was then beaten in a challenge on the right-hand side in the build-up to the second goal, and in general he was woeful.

Ronnie Edwards: 5

The stand-in captain was poor in the first half as Millwall dominated. He was better after the break, but the home side had eased up somewhat.

Jake Clarke-Salter: 5

Like Edwards alongside him, Clarke-Salter was no match for the hosts’ robust attack. Jimmy Dunne was badly missed.

Rhys Norrington-Davies: 6

A mixed display. Caught out at times defensively in the first half, and a mis-hit cross early in the second summed his day up. But he was persistent on the left, offering a useful outlet as Rangers rallied in the second half, and he did well to thwart Thierno Balo during a Millwall counter-attack

Jonathan Varane: 4

Replaced at the interval after a truly abysmal first-half showing, summed up by his role in the second goal. Varane fluffed a clearance and was then embarrassed by Camiel Neghli, who turned inside him, leaving the midfielder on his backside, and curled a fine strike into the far corner of the net.

Kieran Morgan: 5

Well off the pace before also being replaced at half-time. Slow to react to Clarke-Salter’s attempted clearance in the build-up to the first goal.

Harvey Vale: 5

Poor. Flat-footed in the build-up to the opening goal and a couple of awful deliveries further marred his performance.

Paul Smyth: 5

The least culpable of the four players hooked at the break. Not that Smyth made any real impact, but he at least showed some energy on the flank in the later stages of the first half.

Kwame Poku: 6

Played for an hour and seemed to be finding his stride when he went off. Lively in the opening stages of the second half.

Richard Kone: 6

As has so often been the case this season, Kone worked hard up front with no reward.

Steve Cook: 6

Improved the defence, and an excellent challenge to deny Balo prevented a third goal.

Rumarn Burrell: 6

Got a header all wrong, missing the target by a long way, but definitely improved Rangers after his introduction. Was bright, lively and offered some much-needed pace.

Isaac Hayden: 6

Steady enough after also being brought on at the break.

Nicolas Madsen: 7

Also brought on for the second half and did well. Added some impetus in midfield and had Rangers’ only effort on target when his late shot was saved.

Ilias Chair: 6

A loose pass soon after his second-half entrance led to a Millwall break, but Chair’s return was a welcome one and he was involved in some nice link-up play – and fired wide of the near post after a trademark cut inside from the left flank onto his right foot.
