QPR announce signing of goalkeeper Cesar

QPR say they have completed the signing of Inter Milan goalkeeper Julio Cesar, subject to the Brazilian being given a visa and his move receiving international clearance.

Rangers announced on Wednesday evening that Cesar, 32, had agreed a four-year contract at Loftus Road and is expected to be available for the west London derby against Chelsea on 15 September.

He was targeted after summer signing Rob Green made a poor start to his R’s career following his move on a free transfer from West Ham.

Green joined QPR last month.

Cesar, who has 64 Brazil caps, won the Champions League and five Serie A titles during his five years with Inter.

Speaking after his team’s League Cup win over Walsall on Tuesday night, Rangers manager Mark Hughes said: “When you get the opportunity to sign a keeper of that quality you have to pursue it.”

And QPR striker Djibril Cisse declared: “I played against him for Lazio. He’s a really, really good keeper.

“It shows the club wants to go forward and show the whole world that we can do well. It’s a big statement.

“It’s a good thing for us. He’s a top-class goalkeeper. He’s good with both feet, good in the air and has quick reactions. He’s complete.

“He’s also quite big and physical, so I think he can do well in the Premier League.”
