Comical own goal extends QPR’s unbeaten run

Preston 1
Potts (46′)
QPR 1

Small (OG, 83′)

A comical own goal by Thierry Small preserved QPR’s unbeaten run.

Brad Potts’ goal in the first minute of the second half looked like being enough to secure the points for Preston.

But there was a late reprieve for Rangers, who are now unbeaten in four matches, having won their previous three.

Julien Stephan’s side have had a tendency this season to concede goals early in the second half – and it happened again

Alfie Devine was allowed time and space to stroll towards the QPR penalty area and he laid the ball across to Potts, whose first-time shot was towards the middle of the goal but still beat keeper Joe Walsh.

Paul Smyth’s thumping right-footed strike hit the post and Rayan Kolli fired wide as Rangers searched for an equaliser.

It arrived when Harvey Vale played the ball in low from the left, and Small, in attempting to thump the ball away, sliced it into his own net.

Rangers then almost took the lead when Daniel Bennie’s header from Vale’s cross was saved by keeper Daniel Iversen, who denied Bennie again in stoppage time.

QPR: Walsh; Mbengue (Clarke-Salter 85), Dunne, Edwards, Norrington-Davies; Vale, Varane (Hayden 72), Morgan, Smyth (Poku 67); Kolli (Bennie 72), Kone.
Subs not used: Hamer, Adamson, Cook, Scarlett, Esquerdinha.
