QPR have had a bid for Leroy Fer rejected by Norwich and are likely to make an improved offer.
The 24-year-old Netherlands international, who featured in the recent World Cup, is expected to leave Carrow Road this summer following the Canaries’ relegation from the Premier League.
Rangers boss Harry Redknapp is keen to sign at least one midfielder and has been considering other options since missing out on Steve Sidwell, who joined Stoke, and Craig Bryson, who signed a new contract at Derby.
Redknapp is aware of Fer’s potential availability and is hoping Rangers chairman Tony Fernandes can agree a deal to sign him by the end of the week.
Fer joined Norwich from FC Twente a year ago and made 29 league appearances last season, scoring three goals. He previously had a spell at Feyenoord.
With Rangers confident of improving their midfield options, the out-of-contract Gary O’Neil has been told the club have no plans to offer him a new deal despite inviting him to join their pre-season trip to Germany.
O’Neil featured as Charlie Austin’s goal gave Redknapp’s side 1-0 win against Rot Weiß Erfurt on Tuesday evening.

I hear what you're saying guys & would have to agree, I think with Remy though, QPR would love him to stay, but he had a release clause & wants to be playing champions league football, that's never gonna happen with us (ever!)...
I did read Fer wants premier league football this season, but it could just be paper talk.
QPR sold Remy because Liverpool activated the release clause of £8.5m. Tony wanted to keep him, but Remy chose to go. Yes QPRSpent bug, and I'm sure there is dept there but I trust our Chairman and he says it's under control. Always liked Norwich, hope they pop back up
@Pete Its simple, QPR have massive debts and under financial pressure, they needed to sell Remy to fund other moves. Norwich are debt free sand under no pressure to sell. Will only go if QPR pay way over the odds, which wont happen. Harry is trying to unsettle the player to force Norwich to do business which wont work. West Ham tried this with Holt and Villa with Hoolahan, we wont be forced to do business.
The reason Fer would cost around £10m is because although Norwich got relegated they have no debts & have no need to sell.
Neil Adams has stated he will only sell players if the offer is too good to refuse. Fer hasn't expressed a desire to leave & is under a contract for another 3 years.
The only reason Norwich sold Snodgrass is because he only had a year left on his contract & they received an offer for £6m+.
Current Dutch international, under contract, no financial reasons to have to sell = it'll cost you.
What is it with player's valuations?
We've just sold a proven premiership, international goalscorer in Remy for £8.5m to Liverpool, he had 3 years left on his contract, so why should Fer be worth more than £10m???
Norwich don't need to sell any of their player so QPR will have to pay way over the odds for Fer if they get him which I doubt, Norwich sold Snodgrass to Hull for over £6m even though he only had a year left on his contract, so if QPR want Fer they will have to pay way over £10m.
