‘Never again’, vows Hughes after QPR escape the drop

Mark Hughes saw his side escape relegation by the narrowest of margins – and then vowed that they will never again be in that situation while he is boss.

Bolton’s draw at Stoke meant Rangers stayed in the Premier League despite losing 3-2 against Hughes’ former club Manchester City.

And Hughes declared: “No way will we ever be in that situation again while I’m the manager. I’ve got great support and people around me who are determined to take this club forward.”

And the Welshman praised his players for their committed display – particularly after being reduced to 10 men following the sending-off of skipper Joey Barton.

He said: “It was a very difficult situation for us all and I’m pleased our guys used it to good effect. It made us even more resolute and determined.

“I understand there will be a lot of comment about Joey’s behaviour, but I would rather concentrate on what we did.

“I haven’t seen Joey and I haven’t seen the incident, but people were saying he had to go. It didn’t cost us though.”
