Steve McClaren criticised referee Peter Bankes after a late Blackburn penalty ended QPR’s unbeaten run.

Rangers appeared to be heading for a fourth consecutive clean sheet and a sixth game unbeaten when Josh Scowen was adjudged to have fouled Ben Brereton in the area with three minutes remaining.

Bradley Dack scored from the spot, giving Rovers the points.

“It wasn’t a penalty,” Rangers manager McClaren insisted.

“I’ve seen the penalty. It’s not a penalty. The one who has got to give it is the linesman who is only 15 yards away. It was a poor decision.

“The linesman never gave it and he was in a great position. I thought the referee, for both teams, had a poor game. A lot of decisions for both teams were sometimes a little bit mind-boggling.”

Rangers defended well but were unable to take their chances in a game McClaren felt they were more than comfortable in.

“It had 0-0 written all over it. I didn’t think either side was looking like scoring,” he said.

“I thought we, after the first 10 minutes, defended magnificently. I thought we were never going to concede. I couldn’t see it.

“We just needed to produce a bit of quality going forward to win the game. We didn’t – our final ball, our final cross wasn’t good enough – but we didn’t deserve to lose.

“We nearly got the point. We go back to the drawing board and continue what we’re doing. The attitude of the team is great.

“We never looked in trouble. A bit more quality going forward and we’d have won that game, but we didn’t deserve to lose it.”

  • QPR wanted a draw
Never seen such a negative team all season
Ref was out of his depth
QPR only picked their speed up after Rovers scored

  • Stone wall penalty. Good decision by the referee and tucked away nicely by the ever dependable Bradley Dack. Sour grapes by Steve McLaren. When he looks at the penalty decision again he will accept that he was in the wrong.

  • Peter Banked is too inexperienced to ref at this level. Great present for Rovers who wouldn't have scored in 900 minutes. Go and by a lottery ticket Rovers fans, your luck was in at home today.

  • 13 fouls by Blackburn with 4 yellows each - the ref was whistle crazy. Cant speak for Blackburn but QPR are NOT a dirty side.
