McNamara left out because of uncertainty over his future

Gary Rowett has confirmed that he left Danny McNamara out of the Millwall side against Stoke because of uncertainty over the right-back’s future.

QPR want to sign McNamara, who is in the final year of his contract.

Previous approaches for the 23-year-old have been rejected but he has not signed a new deal and Rangers plan to make a significantly improved offer in an attempt to persuade Millwall to sell.

And Lions boss Rowett selected Ryan Leonard rather than McNamara for Saturday’s game at The Den, where his side won 2-0.

“You make a decision based on what you see in pre-season,” said Rowett, as reported by the South London Press.

“I think it’s been well documented that there’s been a little bit of uncertainty about Danny’s situation. (It) made it very difficult for him to be fully focused.”
