Mbia agrees terms and will seal QPR move

QPR have agreed personal terms with Marseille’s Stephane Mbia, who will undergo a medical at Loftus Road this afternoon.

The Cameroon international, 26, will move to west London with Joey Barton likely to go in the opposite direction.

But Rangers manager Mark Hughes has denied reports that the signing of Mbia is dependant on Barton completing his move to France.

Hughes said: “It’s not dependent on that. They’re two separate deals. I’ve not had an update on Joey’s situation.

“He (Mbia) is en-route as we speak. Hopefully we’ll get him into a medical quickly. A lot of discussions have taken place in terms of finances. Hopefully we’ll conclude the deal very quickly.

“You’re never absolutely confident, but a lot of discussion has gone on in the last 24 to 36 hours. I think it’ll be concluded quite quickly.”

Mbia has been signed primarily as a central defender and can also play in midfield.

“He can play in a couple of positions. He’s adept as a midfield player and has been playing at centre-back, and I’ve always said I like that kind of versatility,” Hughes added.
