Manager Hughes explains Ephraim absence

Mark Hughes says the strength of QPR’s squad was highlighted by Hogan Ephraim being left out of Tuesday’s League Cup win over Walsall.

Ephraim, who recently signed a new deal at Loftus Road, was in line to feature in the game against the Saddlers along with Kieron Dyer and Shaun Wright-Phillips.

But when manager Hughes made a late decision to include Alejandro Faurlin, Ephraim was the man to miss out.

Hughes explained: “It was difficult to get him on the bench. I wanted to give Kieron and Ale some game time, so they took up a couple of positions that maybe I had Hogan in mind for.

“Hogan’s had a decent pre-season. I think it just demonstrates the strength of the squad that I’ve got a lot of options at the moment and I’m trying to make sure that the make-up of the team is right.”
