Late Swans goals deny QPR first away point

Swansea City 2 QPR 0

Two late goals at the Liberty Stadium denied QPR a first away point of the season.

Goalkeeper Rob Green produced a number of fine saves before being beaten by Ki Sung-yueng’s cross-shot on 78 minutes.

And former Rangers man Wayne Routledge scored four minutes later, curling home from just outside the box after being found by Nathan Dyer.

It meant Harry Redknapp’s side remained in the bottom three and have lost all eight of their matches on the road this term.

Green was busy from the opening stages. He was off his line quickly to deny Routledge and did well to tip away Kyle Bartley’s early header.

He was less convincing when he misjudged Gylfi Sigurdsson’s tame effort and the ball trickled narrowly wide of the target.

But Green redeemed himself six minutes before the break by diving to his left to brilliantly claw out Sigurdsson’s free-kick.

At the other end, Niko Kranjcar curled a free-kick over the bar and Leroy Fer was unable to apply the finishing touch to a free-kick from Joey Barton.

Fer later had Rangers’ best chance of the match but his header from Kranjcar’s cross was saved by keeper Łukasz Fabiański.

And as the visitors finished the first half strongly, the dangerous Eduardo Vargas fired wide.

Green was called into action again after the restart, twice denying Wilfried Bony, first by saving from the Ivorian after he had been set up by Routledge and then by keeping out his volley.

But the persistent Bony was involved in the opening goal when he laid the ball out wide to Ki, whose cracking effort – or intended cross – went in off the base of the post.

After Routledge sealed Rangers’ fate, Jonjo Shelvey missed a late chance to make it three and Bony’s shot hit the post.

QPR: Green, Onuoha, Caulker, Dunne, Yun, Vargas, Barton (Hoilett 80), Henry, Fer, Kranjcar, Austin.
Subs not used: McCarthy, Ferdinand, Isla, Mutch, Phillips,  Zamora.
