Keeper Kenny set to complete Leeds move

QPR goalkeeper Paddy Kenny is close to completing a move to Leeds United.

He is set to be reunited with former Rangers boss Neil Warnock, whom he also played under at Sheffield United and Bury.

Warnock has been hampered by financial restrictions at Elland Road and at one stage looked like missing out on the 34-year-old as a number of Championship clubs made their interest clear.

Warnock has been trying to broker a deal.

But Kenny has always favoured a return to Yorkshire and stalled over possible moves elsewhere in the hope that Warnock would get the green light to sign him.

He now looks like getting his wish, with Rangers and Leeds having moved close to an agreement in the last 24 hours.

Warnock’s cause has been helped by a bid from Bolton for keeper Andy Lonergan, whose sale will pave the way for Kenny to move.

Kenny’s future at Loftus Road has been in doubt since Warnock was sacked by Rangers in January.

Prior to that, the club had discussed a new contract for the Republic of Ireland international, whose current deal is due to expire next year.

It later became obvious that he was not in Warnock’s successor Mark Hughes’ plans – especially when contract talks pencilled in for the first week of February did not take place.

Hughes made enquiries about several high-profile keepers before Robert Green’s arrival resulted in Kenny being made available.

During his two seasons in west London, Kenny has made 77 league appearances for the R’s and was a key player in their promotion to the Premier League.

  • Im a leeds fan and im sat here with a can and waiting for that official black on paper and then the beer is open. Come on padders and get to leeds training ground :-) I think he will do well for leeds

  • Well batesout kenny has been instrumental to our success over the last 2 seasons. He will do well at your level and at one of the bigger second tier clubs. Perhaps give him a chance rather than write him off ?

  • I’m torn here, absolutely torn. Paddy was so important in our promotion season, he won us as many points as Adel Taarabt that season. Last season he didn’t do himself any favours by playing with an injury and took the gloss off his heroics from the season before. Sitting on the bench at Loftus Road will not do him any good, he deserves better, so Paddy must go with our eternal gratitude. Two seasons cannot making him a legend, but his place in QPR folklore is secure.

  • Paddy Kenny became a cult hero at QPR due to the fact he works hard and is a great goal-keeper. Problem is LUFC is full of unhappy pessimistic pigs like you who moan about everything in life. Leeds United need rid of you before people like you ruin this club

  • here diked bet uve never been to a whites game so shut up kenny is a better keeper than lonergan and bates out ye maybe he ant spent any money but he still got us out of the shit dint he

  • Fatty Kenny is too old, fat, injury-prone & has had more than a few dodgy moments on the pitch last season.

  • Well welcome to Leeds United Kenny. I hope that we keep Lonergan and then we have two good keepers to compete and call upon. You have massive experience and will need it to solve all the problems that we have had at the back. Some decent signings of defenders though to support you! Still need a good right back though. NW will sort this out, I am sure! Come on you mighty White!!!
