Injury suffered by QPR’s Esquerdinha ‘seems not too bad’ – Stephan

A knee injury suffered by Esquerdinha during QPR’s goalless draw at Oxford United “seems to be not too bad”, according to Julien Stephan.

Rangers’ young left-back was stretchered off during the second half with what looked a potentially serious injury.

But Esquerdinha, 19, was not taken to hospital and head coach Stephan seemed to believe the problem was not so serious after all.

“I don’t know exactly. I spoke just a few seconds with him when we came back in the dressing room,” Stephan said.

“It seems to be not too bad. I hope we will have good news tomorrow and after a scan and real assessment.

“It was a bad rotation with the knee. I don’t know exactly now – but it will have a real assessment.”

It was a second successive away stalemate for Rangers, who were involved in a turgid goalless draw at Stoke on Saturday.

Injuries to key players hampered them, as did wet and windy conditions at the Kassam Stadium.

Stephan admitted his side were lacking going forward, but said: “For us it’s a second clean sheet in three days away from home and a third clean sheet in four games in fact.

“In terms of consistency, it’s interesting to see that defensively. We have to take the point and see the positive side.

“The team showed a great mentality. Just continue the process now.”
