Hughes rules out Twitter ban

QPR boss Mark Hughes says he has no plans to ban his players from using Twitter despite recent controversy involving members of his squad.

Joey Barton has become notorious for his tweets, while on-loan striker Federico Macheda has been in hot water for his remarks on the micro-blogging website.

Macheda has since closed his Twitter account but Hughes sees no reason to order others to do the same.

“I don’t think we’re at that point,” he said. “As long as players understand the line that needs to be drawn then I don’t think there’s any issue.

“In terms of taking part in it and engaging with other people, it seems to fulfil a need in people in this day and age.

“It’s not something I feel needs to be in my life but a lot of people seem to enjoy it. It’s part of modern-day life at the moment.

“It’s not causing me any major grief at this point in time. I may have a different view if it becomes a major issue at the club.

“But players have to understand that any comment on what happens within the football club in terms of sensitive information is off limits.

“When players breach that then they have to expect sanctions. That’s no different than any other club.”
