Hughes: QPR are full of confidence ahead of vital Spurs clash

QPR manager Mark Hughes says his team will approach their vital match against Tottenham in confident mood.

They desperately need a victory in their penultimate home game of the season as they battle against relegation, and they face a Spurs side that are chasing a Champions League place.

But after recently beating Liverpool and Arsenal at Loftus Road, Rangers fancy their chances of picking up another three points.

Hughes said: “Our home form has been excellent and we have to replicate that.

“If we match the levels we’ve hit at home, then with the ability we have and the support of the crowd – who’ve been fantastic – we can give anybody a game.

“That confidence leading into a game of significance, as this Spurs game is, is really important for the team.

“We’re looking forward to it. I think it’s important at this stage of the season that you don’t have any apprehension about what’s ahead and you go into the game with confidence – and that’s certainly how we feel.

“We’re very much of the mind that we can go up against Spurs at home and really give it a good go.”

Tottenham have faded badly in recent weeks and were thumped 5-1 by Chelsea in last weekend’s controversial FA Cup semi-final.

But Hughes has warned that Harry Redknapp’s men remain a force to be reckoned with.

“Make no bones about it; on any day they turn up at your ground they have the ability to win Premier League games and win them well,” he said.

“We’ve got to be mindful of that, irrespective of the fact that they haven’t won as many games recently as they would have liked. They’re still a very good team.

“It’s a tall order, but we’ve gone up against good teams in recent weeks and acquitted ourselves really well, and we’ll have to do the same again.”
