Holloway could get QPR up – Ferdinand

QPR director of football Les Ferdinand

Les Ferdinand has told Sky Sports he believes Ian Holloway could get QPR into the play-offs.

Holloway, promoted via the play-offs with Blackpool and Crystal Palace since leaving Loftus Road in 2006, is back for a second spell as Rangers manager.

And director of football Ferdinand has suggested that the club’s ambitions of a top-six finish led to the decision to sack Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, paving the way for Holloway’s return.

He said: “We’re only six points off the play-offs place. Can we go up as one of the top two? That’s probably a bit out of our reach.

“But it was always about could we get into the play-offs. And perhaps that’s why the decision was made to change, because we still feel we’ve got a squad that can perhaps get there.”

Holloway made more than 150 appearances as a player for Rangers – many in the same team as Ferdinand.

His previous five-year spell as manager included a play-off final in 2003 and promotion to the Championship the following season.

“He knows the ins and outs of this club and knows what the supporters want to see,” said Ferdinand.

“He understands where the club is right now and how we’re trying to take the club forward.”
