Hill: More spending will not rescue QPR

Clint Hill insists chairman Tony Fernandes should curb QPR’s spending if he wants the club to stay up.

Rangers are bottom of the table and without a league win this season despite mammoth spending since a Fernandes-led group took control at Loftus Road last year.

Fernandes has spent big.

And veteran defender Hill, who remains one of their most consistent performers despite the huge turnover of players, says making another batch of signings in January would be repeating past mistakes.

“We’ve had loads [of players]. It’s not the way to do it,” he said.

“I’ve been here for three years and I’ve seen loads come and go. I do think we will go and try and get a couple of players, but I don’t think it will be five, six or seven.

“The chairman is throwing money left, right and centre – and sometimes that doesn’t work.

“You’ve got to stick with people and try to get the best out of their ability. I just think we need a bit of stability.”

And Hill still believes Rangers, who drew 2-2 at Wigan on Saturday, can avoid the drop.

He declared: “You can think: ‘My God, how the hell are we going to get out of this?’ “Or you say: ‘Sod this, let’s prove people wrong.’

“If we manage to do it, what an achievement it would be when you’re sitting in your armchair in 15 or 20 years’ time.”
