Helguson completes move to Cardiff

Cardiff City have completed the signing of Heidar Helguson from QPR for an undisclosed fee.

Helguson, 34, had a year of his contract remaining but was not part of manager Mark Hughes’ plans at Loftus Road.

After initially struggling for fitness and form following his move from Bolton in 2009, Helguson became a key player for Rangers and was instrumental in their promotion to the Premier League.

He was also their top scorer in the top flight last season, netting nine goals. But he was troubled by a groin complaint and missed virtually all of the second half of the campaign.

Helguson is one of a number of players Hughes has been looking to offload this summer.

Luke Young is also surplus to requirements but his future is unclear after a potential move appeared to fall through.
