‘Matt Ingram will be a Premier League goalkeeper, 100%’

QPR boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has tipped Matt Ingram to be a Premier League goalkeeper but has reiterated that Alex Smithies remains his number one.

Hasselbaink was quick to back Smithies after January signing Ingram impressed on his Rangers debut in their recent draw at Cardiff.

And the 22-year-old again showed his potential on his home debut, producing a superb second-half save in Saturday’s draw with Reading at Loftus Road.

“Alex has done magnificently for me – absolutely brilliant,” said Hasselbaink.

“If it wasn’t the end of the season and we weren’t in this (mid-table) situation I would never have changed it – Matty would not have played.

“In that respect, Alex is the number one at the club. But it’s for him to lose and Ingram is pushing.

“We think Matt Ingram will be a Premier League goalkeeper, 100%.”
